Adjust a UPVC door

Last Updated 23/04/2024

How to adjust a door to stop draughts, or so it closes better.

If your door is loose, rattly, and drafty, you need to adjust the front door latch.

Step one: Check what tool you need

Look inside your door frame to see what tool you need. You'll either need an Allen key or a screwdriver to loosen the fixings on latch.

Step two: Loosen the fixings

Use the right tool to loosen the two fixings on the keep plate. The plate will become loose.

Step three: Adjust the keep

Moving the keep inwards will keep the door tighter into the doorframe. Move the keep outwards if the door is not latching,

Step four: Tighten the fixings

Once the keep is in the right position, tighten the screws again. You might need to do this a few times to ensure the door is in the right place.

Step five: Test the door

Try opening and closing it to ensure it shuts and locks correctly. If it doesn't, go back to step three and try again.

If you're still having trouble, or if you're not sure what to do, contact a professional for further assistance. If you're a Bromford customer, you can request a repair.
